Mrs. Betsy Smith Wilkins Age 89 of Helen passed away Friday February 27, 2009 at her residence following an extended illness.
Mrs. Wilkins was born in Atlanta Georgia on July 5, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Lee Augustus and Lillian Smith. She was preceded in death by her seven sisters and her husband James Milligan Wilkins Sr.
As a young woman Mrs. Wilkins modeled for Rich’s Department store in Atlanta. She was an avid golfer and member of the LGA of the Chattahoochee Country Club in Gainesville. She was a grey lady at the Hall County Hospital and served on the alter guild for many years at Grace Calvary Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Clarkesville. Later she was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in White County.
Survivors include her sons and daughters in law, Jimmy Jr. and Carolyn Wilkins, Gainesville, David and Helen Wilkins, Mike and Anna Wilkins, all of Helen, Buddy and Bonnie Wilkins, Jupiter, Fla.; grandchildren, Nikki and Griff Law, Jimbo and Denise Wilkins, all of Gainesville, Dave and Joanna Wilkins, St Simmons, Dan and Jenny Wilkins, Atlanta, Michael and Rachael Wilkins, Kennesaw, William and Molly Wilkins, Macon, Dr. Bud Wilkins, Jupiter, Fla., Betsy and Elvin Ramos, Lithia, Fla; nine great grandchildren and her beloved dog, Chloe.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for Wednesday March 4, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Sautee. The Rev. Scott Kidd will officiate. Mrs. Wilkins wishes were to be cremated.
