Mrs. Betty "Mickey" DeEtte Herington, daughter of the late Mike H. Sewell and DeEtte Burton Sewell, was born March 1, 1949 in Atlanta. Mrs. Herington grew up in Decatur and spent some of her time with her family at Lake Sinclair. She attended Towers High School and DeKalb Junior College. Following her marriage she moved to Stone Mountain, Gainesville and most recently lived in Braselton. She was a long-time employee of JC Penney and also worked as a legal and corporate secretary. She enjoyed dancing the Carolina Shag and had been a member of ShagAtlanta since 2000. Upon being diagnosed with lung Cancer in March 2016, she took up cross stitching to keep her hands and mind busy while fighting the disease. She departed this life in her home surrounded by her husband and daughter. She leaves behind her dance partner and beloved husband of 50 years, Chuck Herington, their daughter, Kim Thomas with husband Scott and grandson, Eli, all of Fayetteville, NC; her brother Mike Sewell, Jr. and his wife, Cheryl of Durham, NC. She also cherished her extended family, too many to name. An extended graveside service will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, January 26th at the family's cemetery plot located atop the hill behind Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 986 Mount Pleasant Church Road, Cleveland, GA. The family thanks fellow mourners in advance for wearing masks.
