Carl Richard "Rick" Moe Jr.

August 1, 1962 — April 7, 2020

With profound sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Carl Richard Moe, Jr. (Rick) on April 6, 2020, due to a heart attack at age 57. Rick loved the Lord and honored God as his help and deliverer (Psalms 40:17). Rick is survived by DJ Hartley Moe, his wife of 33 years; his daughter Kathrine (Moe) Trageser, her husband Patrick, and his soon-to-be granddaughter; mother-in-law Doris Hartley Stuart; his parents, Carl Richard (Dick) Moe and Patricia Johnson Moe; his sister, Megan Moe, nephew Nathaniel Moe-Lunger and nieces Emma and Caroline Moe-Lunger; as well as a large extended family and many friends. His story began on August 1, 1962, in Newton, IA, the oldest child of parents Dick and Pat Moe. As an older brother, he was adored by his sister. While growing up, Rick lived in IA, FL, CA, and NJ. He met the love of his life, DJ, at a church picnic for Christian Assembly in Columbus, OH. They married in 1987, and God blessed them with daughter Kathrine. Rick loved his family immensely. While at one time he and DJ considered another baby, Rick said: "Kathrine’s such a great kiddo, why would we mess with perfection?” He was incredibly proud of his daughter’s completion of her Pharm.D, her service at an orphanage in Guatemala, and her marriage to youth pastor Patrick. Their family lived in OH, MI, IL, FL, and GA. Most recently Rick and DJ lived in both Sandy Springs, GA, and Skylake, Sautee Nacoochee, GA He graduated from Drexel University in 1984 with a BA in Business. In 2001 he received an MBA from Notre Dame University, becoming a fervent Fighting Irish fan. Rick worked in banking throughout his career. When he passed, Rick was Executive Risk Officer for Commercial Real Estate at Truist Bank (formerly SunTrust Bank). Rick was a man who relished challenges and found satisfaction in creating solutions. He cared deeply for those around him and strove to help, whether it be a caring conversation, a gift card, a prayer, or advocacy. He was a strong role-model for family and friends, a man we knew we could turn to in times of need. Rick enthusiastically enjoyed many hobbies. He was an accomplished scuba diver, certified in Advanced Nitrox, Rescue, Decompression Procedures, Solo, and Technical Diving. While living in Florida, Rick would often dive during his lunch break. He also was a Harley Davidson motorcyclist, and he savored his trips in the Appalachians, often riding the winding mountain roads to visit his parents. He loved rock music, science fiction, and reading classics as well as short stories. Rick appreciated being a part of the church community. He found joy contributing to worship by playing drums for churches in NJ, OH, MI, and FL. When he passed, he was a member of Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church in Johns Creek, GA. While Rick’s earthly story ended in the mountains he loved, his heavenly story continues as he is now with the Lord. We miss him on earth but look forward to a reunion in Heaven. A private service for immediate family was held in Cleveland, GA after his death. Due to COVID-19, a memorial service will be planned in the future. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to: Living Oaks Church, 14156 64th Drive North, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33418.
