Mr. Carlton Silas Palmer, age 94 of Clermont passed away on Monday, October 1, 2007 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Palmer was born on September 22, 1913 in White County, Georgia to the late Arron and Amanda Lewis Palmer. He was a millwright in the steel industry and was a member of The Steel Workers Organization of Active Retirees. Mr. Palmer was a member of the
Shoal Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Craft Palmer, sisters, Bonnie McGee, Bertha Jackson, Nellie Barrett, Nola Mae Nix; brothers, Clifford Palmer and Charlie Palmer.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Nix Palmer, Clermont; daughters and sons-in-laws,
Carolyn & Howard Gamel, Lithia Springs and Sharon Lee & Bill Morrison, Peachtree City; sons and daughters-in-laws, Russell and Linda Palmer, Wellsburg, WV and Larry and Debbie Palmer, Wellsburg, WV; stepson, Benny Nix, Clermont; step-daughters, Becky Schacht, Gainesville; and Maxine Olivers, CA; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Shoal Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Alan Morris and the Rev. Joe Vernon officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the church on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m.
The family will receive friends from 4-9 on Wednesday at the funeral home.
