Cheryl Crysel

Cheryl (Kohler) Crysel, age 74, of Sautee Nacoochee passed away February 5, 2022, after a short battle with cancer. Cheryl was born on May 20, 1947, in Buffalo, New York. She was the daughter of Ken Kohler and Martha (Holbrook) Kohler. She married James Crysel on January 18, 1947, in Atlanta, GA. She graduated from North Druid Hills High School in Atlanta. Later she attended Georgia State University and was second in her class with a major in Mathematics. After graduation she joined Western Electric in the Engineering Department, raising to become the first female engineering manager. She spent her entire career in the organization serving in various roles. During her career she led the Western Electric Regional Council as President of the Telephone Pioneers of America in 1989-1990. Among other things, she was also instrumental in organizing the Christmas party at Fort McPherson for the children of military members serving in Operation Desert Storm. She was a Master Gardener. After retirement she was active and became president of the Soque Garden Club. One of her passions was Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Georgia. She served for twenty years as Board Member, Board Secretary, liaison to the Garden Club and grant writer. During her tenure, Habitat for Humanity of NEGA built over a dozen houses for those in need. She is survived by her husband Jim, a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law, two stepchildren and their spouses, three step grandchildren, several cousins in addition to two pampered dogs. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to: Cheryl Crysel Memorial Scholarship, which will benefit White County High School students.
