Mrs. Dorothea Madeline Maxwell age 92 of Helen, died peacefully surrounded by family Saturday January 2, 2010.
Mrs. Maxwell was born July 3, 1917 in New York City to the late Peter Matthew and Dorothea Kalb. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Maxwell and her sister Elizabeth Root. Mrs. Maxwell was an active member of the Helen Library Board, Sautee Garden Club and the White County Historical Society. She was a charter member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. Mrs. Maxwell retired from United Airlines after 25 years and after retirement worked at the Old Sautee Store for 30 years.
Survivors include her sister and brother in law, Louise and Robert Wurl, Helen, niece, Betty Lou Matthes, Norcross; nieces and husbands, Penelope and Edward Cahill, Marietta, Pamela and Kenneth Miles, Kennesaw, stepson and step daughter in law, William S. and Ileen Maxwell, Noblesville Indiana, stepdaughter, Patricia Bell of Fremont Indiana, step grandson, William J. Maxwell of Noblesville Indiana, step granddaughter and husband, Lisa and Kristofer Freiden, Carmel, Indiana, 5 great grandchildren, 7 great nieces and nephews, 3 great great grandchildren.
Memorial services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Tuesday January 5, 2010 from the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. Pastor Scott Kidd will officiate.
