Dr. John Carver Edwards

Dr. John Carver Edwards, age 83, of Cleveland, Georgia passed away peacefully on Monday, September 4, 2023. Born in Charleston, South Carolina on December 8, 1939. He was the son of the late Elizabeth Carver Edwards and the late John Pelham Edwards. Survivors include his wife Judith Task Edwards; son John Spann Edwards (Melissa), daughter Leigh Carver Davis (Steve), son Liam Morgan Quinlan, son Kelly Harris Quinlan (Jessica) and grandchildren Luke Davis, Logan Quinlan, and Beau Quinlan. Dr. Edwards graduated from Wofford College BA with honors and the University of Georgia with a Masters and Ph. D in History. He was the University Archivist at the University of Georgia Libraries for many years until his retirement in 2000. Dr. Edwards was a charter member of the Academy of Certified Archivists. He was also an associate in the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. He was also listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World for over ten years, in addition Dr. Edwards received the prestigious Marquis Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement recognition. He was the author of 5 books, 25 journal articles and 180 book reviews. Dr. Edwards also had two award-winning National Public Radio programs based upon two of his books. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 10, 2023, at the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
