EDNA BURKE HOOD Barrett Funeral Home of Cleveland, GA announces the death of EDNA BURKE HOOD, age 91 of Buford, GA, formerly from Cleveland. Mrs. Hood went home to be with Jesus Christ, her savior, Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at the Bell-Minor Home in Gainesville. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 2 from 5:00 – 7:00pm at Barrett Funeral Home, 118 North Brooks St, Cleveland, GA 30528. Graveside services are scheduled for Friday, October 3 at 4:00pm, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Gainesville, with The Reverends Dave Fortner and Farrel Presley officiating. Mrs. Hood was born July 14, 1923 in Clarkesville, Georgia and was the daughter of Hubert and Lola Burke. In 1942, Edna married Rev. Claude E. Hood (deceased). She was appreciated for the love and devotion shown to Rev. Hood’s congregations, as the pastor’s wife at 27 Baptist churches in northeast Georgia. She is pre-deceased by two brothers and one sister. She is survived by: her daughter Claudette and son-in law Robert N. Howell of Buford; her grandson Craig A. Stephens of Buford; a step-granddaughter Susan and her husband Dave Henley of Rome; a great granddaughter Maura Henley of Rome, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in her honor to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, 2450 Limestone Parkway, Gainesville, GA 30501, or the charity of your choice.
