Ellene lived most of her life in White County. She retired from Habersham Mills in 1991 after 25 years, and continued to work 12 more years in Helen. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She loves the Lord, her family and her dear neighbors. Ellene spent the last months of her life in Northlake Gardens, an assisted living home in Tucker near her daughter Dixie. She made a quick adjustment to living in always warm beautiful home with the most loving nurses and caregivers anyone could ask for. Her meals were prepared and medicines given without having to remember. She rested, played bingo, exercised, dances, attended church services, and made many friends. She commented that this must be a simple taste of what heaven will be like. She rested and waited for God. He came for her on March 30, 2009 in the afternoon at her home in Sautee. She returned home for the last two weeks, seeming to know that it would be soon, and wanted to meet her Lord in her very familiar place.
