Felton Leon Hughes

Felton Leon Hughes, age 90, of Cleveland, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 20, 2026.

He was born on May 3, 1935, in Buford, Georgia, to Felton C. Hughes and Bessie Lea Hughes.

He was a devoted member of Buford Masonic Lodge #292, Yonah Masonic Lodge #382, and Yaarab Shrine Temple in Atlanta.

Leon had a deep love for music and spent many years playing bass in the Freedom Band. In his free time, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and traveling.

Leon lived a long and meaningful life marked by hard work, service, and deep faith. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy,

Throughout his life, Leon was known for his skill and strong work ethic. He worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, specializing in heavy equipment maintenance, where his knowledge and reliability were highly valued. He also owned and operated Hughes Grading and Welding alongside his father.

A man of strong faith, Leon was an active member of Chattahoochee Christian Church and New Prospect United Methodist Church, where he found great joy in fellowship and worship.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jackie Hughes; daughters, Debra Dobkins and Sherri Hughes; son, Jimmy Hughes; grandson, Bo Dobkins (Brittany); great-grandson, Sawyer Dobkins; daughter-in-love, Lena Hosch; brother, Royce Hughes (Jane); niece, Laura Baker (BJ); nephew, Mark Hughes (Tara); and a host of other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Karen Higgins, grandson Heath Hosch, and son-in-law Woody Dobkins.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 22, 2026 from 3 PM until 5 PM and again on Monday, March 23, 2026 from 12 PM until 1 PM

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, March 23, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Wayne Wilkes and Rev. Bill Walters officiating. Interment will follow at New Prospect United Methodist Church.
