Miss Florence Clarke Logan age 93 of Huntsville Alabama passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2006 at a private healthcare center following an extended illness.
Miss Logan was born in the Nacoochee Valley in White County. Her father was Simpson Bell Logan, a former Probate Judge of White County, and her mother was Lula Dean Logan. She attended Brenau College in Gainesville. In 1940, she attended the premier of the motion picture “Gone with the Wind” in Atlanta and was contacted on the 50th anniversary by several newspapers as one of the two surviving persons in Georgia who had attended the premier.
She served as Post Master of the office at Sautee Nacoochee retiring in 1978. Miss Logan survived in the direct path of the F-3 tornado which struck Gainesville on April 7, 1936. During World War 11, she worked in the office of the North Carolina Ship Building Company, which constructed Liberty Cargo Ships in Wilmington, North Carolina. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church for 80 years.
Survivors include nephew, Walter W. Brandon, Jr. and wife, Patricia; great nephews, Dean Brandon, Miles Brandon and wife, Beth, all of Hunstsville, AL; great niece, Nancy Warren and husband, Lincoln, of Texas; 9 great great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday January 13, 2007 at Nacoochee Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Bob Prim will officiate. Interment will be in Nacoochee United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
