Gary Leon Black

May 7, 1948 — December 27, 2018

Gary Leon Black, age 70, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center with his loving family by his side. He was born and raised in Cleveland, Ga and was the only son of Geraldine and Leon Black. He loved his hometown so much that he chose to raise his 4 children here as well. He was well known around the community for being a caring man who loved and helped everyone he met. After graduating from the University of Georgia, he had a long and meaningful career of working for the Georgia Department of Corrections where he guided and mentored many people to a better life.  His generosity, love, and positivity will truly be missed by all who knew him.  He was a shining light of hope and love in a dark world, truly one-of-a-kind.  As a man of true faith, his family is confident he is rejoicing in heaven with our Lord and Savior.  He is preceded in death by his father, Leon Black.   He is survived by his wife, Stacy McDowell Black, his children, Missy Black (Pulliam), Chris Black, Rachel Black, and Sara Black, his mother Geraldine Black and his grandchildren, Alex Pulliam, and Taylor Pulliam.   A Memorial service will be held at 2pm Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 PM Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Barrett Funeral Home. To share a memory or leave a condolence for the family, visit barrettfh.com.
