George N. Pruitt

George Nickles Pruitt, age 76, passed away at his home in Cleveland, GA on December 22, 2023 due to complications from lung cancer. Born on May 14,1947 to John Lamar Pruitt and Sara Nickles Pruitt, he grew up in Dekalb County in the Druid Hills Neighborhood. He graduated from Druid Hills High school in 1965. After high school, George enrolled in courses at Dekalb College, and later transferred to Georgia State College. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served from 1968 to 1970 at the USMC Air Station in Beaufort, SC. Most of George’s career was spent working for Williams Brothers Concrete Company, which later became Blue Circle, then LaFarge. He worked in the concrete field for 28 years, batching concrete. He was a dedicated employee who never missed a day of work except for surgery. George had a sharp mind, a great sense of humor, and an inquisitive nature. He was a lifelong learner who had an avid appetite for reading. He was a prince of a guy. To say that George was beloved by his family and friends is an understatement. From an early age, he developed a strong bond with animals and dearly loved his dogs. He was a member of the Lions Club. George was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Alan Leighton Pruitt of Clayton GA. George is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carole Yancey Pruitt: his children, Kimberly Russell (Greg Russell), Sam Pruitt (David Hughes), Scott Pruitt, (Connie Pruitt); Carrie Pruitt; older brother, John L. Pruitt (Andrea); 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Harriet Hagan Yancey, Deborah Yancey and JoAlice Ray; and several nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will be held at Barrett Funeral Home on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 12:00 – 2:00 PM followed by military honors.
