Glenn C. Davis

Mr. Glenn C. Davis age 87 of Cleveland passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at his residence following an extended illness. He kept his sense of humor and was mentally alert until the end. Born in Suches, Georgia on June 18, 1919, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Pearl Elizabeth Gilreath Davis. Mr. Davis served over 3 years in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during WWII. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, the War Shipping Administration was requesting help to bring troups back from Europe and Mr. Davis volunteered to help. He made 6 trips by boat, 5 of which was in and out of the Mediterranean Sea and one trip to LeHarve, France. He served 39 months in the CCC in Georgia, Maryland, California, and Nevada. Mr. Davis worked with the Atlanta Journal Constitution as a motor route and relay distributor for 16 years, 7 days a week, and never missed a day through 5 counties in Georgia and one in North Carolina.(Hall, White, Union, Towns, Lumpkin, and Hayesville, NC). Mr. Davis was a life member of the VFW Post 7720 in Cornelia, a life member of the DAV, member of the American Legion, Roy Head Post for over 30 years, the Americal Division Association, the Guadalcanal Campaign Vets, the CCC Vets Association Atlantic to Pacific since 1930, and a member of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertie Mae Lunsford Davis, brothers, Junior Davis, Hoover Davis, sisters, Idell Davis Lunsford and Gladys Davis Lang. Survivors include his daughter, Martha Davis, Cleveland; son, Woody Davis, Helen; one grandchild; and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2007 from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Chris Anderson will officiate. Interment will follow in the VFW Memorial Park Cemetery in Demorest. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday.
