Grady Alexander

Grady Alexander, “Your wings were ready; but our hearts were not.” It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Grady Alexander, age 91 years, of Crescent, PA. He passed peacefully at his home on February 9, 2021, with family by his side. He was a wonderful husband, loving father and proud “Pap” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grady was born at the Alexander Homeplace in Cleveland, GA (Home of the Cabbage Patch dolls). His parents were Ancil Elijah Alexander and Pearlie Jane Hulsey. He enjoyed his early years on the family farm. Shortly after he turned 18 years of age, he headed North with several buddies, to work at J&L Steel in Aliquippa. He retired with 33 ½ years. Grady enjoyed his side job most; he was the proud owner of Grady’s Body Shop for sixty plus years. He always loved working on cars from an early age. This led to a full-fledged business. Along the way, he made many friends for life. He is the last to pass away from the PA/Georgia bunch. The young men & their families from Cleveland, GA remained friends for life. Grady was a Coraopolis Mason for 56 years; he received his 50yr pin on February 9, 2015. Through the years, Grady enjoyed collecting old cars. He loved his collection. He was proud to drive many of them down the road on his way to the local car cruises. To relax, Grady could be found socializing with friends at the Aliquippa Hideaway, or as a member of the Aliquippa VFW (Hopewell) and the Aliquippa Serbian Club. Above all, Grady loved his faith and his southern gospel hymns. He always enjoyed taking his family and going to Cleveland’s Campmeeting Days in Cleveland, GA. There he would visit family & friends he grew up with. He cherished the days when his children & grandchildren would gather and celebrate special occasions, celebrations and holidays. He loved family dinners, but he always made sure there was a pie for dessert. Grady will be sadly missed by Lois Jean, his loving wife of 69 years. Mourning his loss are his five children, three daughters and two sons: Cheryl (Sam) Ellis, Carol (Mark) Capuano, Carla (Dan) Quinn, Ron Alexander, Todd Alexander: Five granddaughters are missing their “Pap”: Jada (Pedro) Portela -Miami, FL, Nia (Jeremy) Bates -Williamsville, NY, Falicia (Mark) Andrews -Elmira, NY, Laura (Andrew) Alexander McDonald -Pasadena, CA, Amanda Alexander -Greentree, PA. The great-grandchildren loved their “Pap”: Mila & Zara Portela, Lena, Nigel & Baby Girl Bates, Brayden, Landon & Cameron Andrews. Grady is survived by his beloved sister in GA, Opal Suggs, 98 years young. He was predeceased by his parents, and his siblings in GA: his twin brother, Grover Alexander, and his brothers, Charlie, Fred and Lawrence and his sister, Margie Nell. He leaves behind many loved relatives in Georgia & Ohio. To Grady, his family meant the world to him. And his family loved him back through all the years. We’ll carry you in our hearts forever. (1522 Coraopolis Hts. Rd.) and also on Wednesday from 10 AM until time of funeral service at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park, Rochester.
