H.A. Alllison

Mr. H.A. Allison, age 82 of Cleveland passed away on Friday, June 08, 2007 at his residence following an extended illness. Born in White County, Georgia on September 14, 1924, he was the son of the late Benjamin G. and Cora Stovall Allison. Mr. Allison was a U.S. Army veteran having served 22 months earning the rank of Sergeant with 17 months of which he was stationed in Germany during WWII, a graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Animal Husbandry, a Cleveland Merchant for many years operating Stovall’s 5 & 10 Cent Store, and was a very active member of the Cleveland United Methodist Church for 70 years serving in various capacities including Youth Leader, Steward, Chairman-Trustee Board, Chairman-Finance Committee, and Secretary Treasurer. He was a member of the American Legion, Roy Head Post # 16 for 48 years, participating in at least 25 military funerals, member of the Woodmen of the World Insurance Fraternity, a 32 nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and member of the Yonah Masonic Lodge #382 F.&A.M. where he served as Past Worshipful Master, member of the Yaarab Temple, a charter member of the Mt. Yonah Chapter # 405 and Past Worthy Patron of Eastern Star, a volunteer for the White County Fire Department for 32 years, Past-president of Cleveland Kiwanis Club and member for 60 years with 37 years perfect attendance, March of Dimes – White County Treasurer for 10 years plus, served as former Chairman of the Cleveland Housing Authority, a member of the Cleveland Planning and Zoning Commission, the White County Chamber of Commerce, White County Developmental Authority, an organizer and charter member of White County Bank where he served on the Board of Directors, a member and past-director of the White County Farm Bureau, the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association, a Charter-Life Member of the White County Historical Society, Boy Scouts of America – WEBLO Leader, a member and organizer of the Georgia Mountain Planning and Development Commission, HANDI-ACCESS of White County, and a member of numerous fund drives: Cancer, Heart, United Way, TMC-Day, Boy Scouts, and MDA. He was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Allison, and sisters, Bennie Jane Head and LaTrelle Studley. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mary Anna Allison, Cleveland; son and daughter-in-law, Gerry and Cathi Allison, Jacksonville, FL; son, Darrell Allison, Washington, DC; daughter, Deena Allison, Cleveland; granddaughter, Laura Allison, grandson, Ben Allison, both of Jacksonville, FL; brother-in-law, Dean Head, Cleveland; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2007 at the Cleveland United Methodist Church with Dr. Steve Winters, Dr. Herchel Sheets, and the Rev. David Gravitt officiating. Interment will follow in Gateway Memory Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday.
