Mr. Hank W. Heffner, age 72 of Cleveland, passed away Friday, July 25, 2025. Mr. Heffner was born on May 3, 1953, in Gaston, NC, to the late Vinson and Dora Chastain Silvers. Hank loved softball. He worked and played in softball for over 40 years and was in the ISA Softball Hall of Fame. He loved jokes and telling them to others. He was always happy at the ballfield. Many ball players said he was the fairest and most respected umpire they ever knew. Hank retired from The City of Gainesville Park and Recreation Department after 29 ½ years of service. He dearly loved all his friends and family. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Eugene Dyer. Survivors include his wife, Debbie Heffner; sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Dennia Heffner and Drew and Kristen Heffner; grandchildren, Danielle Lumpkin, Collin Robertson, Kateland Heffner, Jory Kimbrell, Madison Canup, Joelynd Canup, Rhiannon and Ethan Lastinger; great-grandchild, Ellie Lastinger; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Brenda Heffner; mother-in-law, Lillian Dyer; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Danny and Tammy Dyer; brothers-in-law, David Dyer, Anthony Holland, and Chris Cochran; sister-in-law, Annette Dyer; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Flynn, Rev. Gary Heffner, and Mr. Steve Lovvorn officiating. Interment will follow in Dyer Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at the funeral home.
