Mrs. Harriet Elizabeth Banning Eller, age 98 of Clarkesville, passed away on Saturday, September 08, 2007 at her grandson’s residence following an extended illness.
Born in Olympia, Washington on December 02, 1908, Harriet was one of the original
“Rosie the Riveters” and spent WWII welding steel in the shipyards of Portland, Oregon helping churn out giant warships for the U.S. Navy. Mrs. Eller came to Clarkesville, Georgia in November 1931 with her husband, Herman Eller and son, Dale Eller. Mrs. Eller was a retired nurse, was loved by many, and was actively involved in her community through the Habersham County Senior Center “Meals on Wheels” program for many years. She was a member of the Clarkesville Baptist Church and preceded in death by a son, Richard Eller and 7 other children that died at infancy.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Lois Eller, Cleveland; daughter-in-law, Virginia Eller, ex-daughter-in-law, Joy Eller Chase, both of Clarkesville; grandchildren, Jerry Eller, Cleveland; Ricky Eller, Jeanie Eller Wheeler, both of Clarkesville; Scott Eller, Athens; Patricia Eller Anderson, Cleveland; and Ginger Eller Forrest, Gainesville; 14 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at the Clarkesville Baptist Church. The Rev. Grady Walden will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Clarkesville.
The body will lie in state at the church from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Monday and from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday.
