Herman "Leon" Simmons

Mr. Herman “Leon” Simmons, age 75, of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023. Mr. Simmons was born in Clarkesville to the late Walter Lee Simmons and Barbara Ann Westmoreland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Richard Thacker. Mr. Simmons worked for Georgia Power. Survivors include wife, Jean Simmons, Cleveland; daughter, Sarah Simmons-Dearing (Barry); Hiawassee; granddaughters, Alexis Taylor Turner and Shelby LeeAnn Stroud (Cody), both of Hiawassee; and Brooke Bartoz (Brad), Billings, MT; grandson, Colt Dearing, Hiawassee; sisters, Dona K. Burke, Helen, and Jerelyn Whitfield (Matt), Cleveland; and brother, Jay Westmoreland (Kim), Cleveland. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 P.M. Monday, September 11, 2023 from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. Rev. Mitch Bardenwerper will officiate. Interment will follow in Yonah View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12-2 P.M. Monday, September 11, 2023, at the funeral home, prior to the service.
