Rev. Hoyt Simmons age 79 of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at Oak Heritage Nursing Home in Baldwin following an extended illness.
Rev. Simmons was born September 27, 1929 to the late Grover and Nellie Mae Kanady Simmons. He was a native and lifetime resident of White County and a graduate of Truett-McConnell College. He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma Holman Simmons. Rev. Simmons was a veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. He preached 18 years at The Mountain Lakes Chapel in Mountain Lakes Campground. Rev. Simmons was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law Wendell and Deborah Simmons, Seattle, WA; daughter and son-in-law Wanda and Julian Buckner, Charleston, S.C.; daughter Connee Simmons, Cleveland; sister Jeanene Moore, Jasper; brothers Raymond Simmons, Gainesville; Leroy Simmons, Brunswick; grandchildren Diane Lawrence, Lake Charles, LA and Nicole Ivankovic, Seattle, WA.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3 P.M. Saturday, December 13, 2008 from Barrett Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dave Fortner and Rev. Terry Head will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. View Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Friday and 1-3 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home
