James Hinson

James Milton Hinson

May 1, 1940 - August 19, 2026

Jim was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late John Beuna Hinson and the late Louise Avery Hinson. He had an older sister, Helen, who passed away in 2023.

In his youth, he excelled as a drummer in his middle and high school bands. After graduating from Brown High School, he enlisted in the Marine Corps where he trained in ordinance and completed his commitment at the Naval Air Station in Atlanta. In 1961, he met the love of his life, Marilyn Clonts, at a University of Georgia football game. Jim and Marilyn were married in 1963.

 Jim always had a passion for people. He never met a stranger and loved to brighten everyone’s day with a joke. He became a very successful salesman selling computer tape at the beginning of the computer generation ultimately becoming a regional sales manager. Later in his career, he designed and sold furniture specific to the computer industry for large computer installations. It was during this time that he and Marilyn fell in love with the Colorado Rockies.

Jim loved the Lord, the outdoors, traveling, boating, hiking, and music, but most of all, he loved his family. He was a family man through and through. Jim also developed a love and talent for restoring antiques which he continued after retirement when he and Marilyn moved to Sautee Nacoochee. Jim and Marilyn were very active at Nacoochee Methodist Church, serving on numerous committees.

Jim is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Marilyn C. Hinson, daughter Meredith H. Bradham and son-in-law Joseph W. Bradham, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive guests at 1:00 pm and a Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Barrett Funeral home, 118 N Brooks St, Cleveland, GA 30528, followed by a graveside service at Nacoochee Methodist Church Cemetery, 1371 GA-17, Sautee Nacoochee, GA 30571.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Jim’s life through a donation to either Nacoochee Methodist Church Building Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association.
