James Ray Hawkins

James Ray Hawkins, age 79, of Clermont, passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020. Mr. Hawkins was born on December 22, 1940, in Cherokee, North Carolina, to the late Hansel and Mary Magdalin Bowers Hawkins. He was a retired machine operator and a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. James also enjoyed bee keeping. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his sister, Imogene Sosebee; brother, Lewis Hawkins. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Lois Nell Hawkins, Clermont; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Karen Hawkins, Clermont; son, Randy Hawkins, Elijay; brother and sister-in-law, Jr and Hazel Hawkins, Covington; grandchildren, Taylor and Hunter Bray, Gainesville; soon-to-be great-grandchild, Hayden Lee Bray. The family would like to give a special thank you to our sweet friends of Halcyon Hospice of Gainesville. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Wayne Phillips and the Rev. Stacy Dyer will officiate. Interment will follow at Heavenly Sunshine Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Due to Covid-19, the family requests that everyone attending the visitation and service wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines. For those unable to attend the service, it will be livestreamed on the Barrett Funeral Home YouTube channel. Flowers will be accepted, or donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital – 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
