James Carlton Thurmond

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Wednesday December 6, 2006 at Cleveland Worship Center for Mr. James Carlton Thurmond age 97 of Cleveland. The Rev. L.G. Howard and the Rev. Danny Jarrard will officiate. Interment will be in Gateway Memory Park. The family will receive friends 6-9 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Thurmond died Monday December 4, 2006 at New Horizons North following an extended illness. Mr. Thurmond was born in White County, Georgia on November 16, 1909, the son of the late Elisha and Cora Howard Thurmond. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Freeman Thurmond and daughter Lillian Shelnut. Mr. Thurmond was a member of the Cleveland Worship Center and was in the Lumber business most of his life. He was a White County Commissioner from 1977-1978. Survivors include daughter & son in law, Ellon & Gilbert Forrester, Cleveland; sons & daughters in law, Joel & Cheryl Thurmond, Cleveland, Dan & Andrea Thurmond, Sautee, Lawrence & Geneva Thurmond, Cleveland, TN., Leon & Connie Thurmond, Del City, OK; son-in-law, Richard Shelnut, Cleveland; sisters, Ethel Autry, Louise Ledford, both of Cleveland; 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren.
