Jane E. Pelletier of Hannibal, Missouri, passed away on June 10, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born in February of 1935 to the late Dr. Robert and Kathryn Ketchum. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. David Pelletier, in 2024. She is survived by her son Samuel Pelletier and Sam’s wife Wendy, her daughter Miriam King and Miriam’s husband James, her grandchildren Joshua, Lydia, Lydia’s husband Luis, Spencer, and Parker, and her little great-granddaughter Sophia, who brought her great joy in her last months. She was also predeceased by her brother and sisters Robert (Dick) Ketchum, Marilyn Stone, and Cornelia Ketchum. Jane grew up in Charleston, West Virginia, where she played flute in the high school marching band. After high school, Jane was ready for an adventure. She headed off to the snowy winters of Alberta, Canada, where she attended Prairie Bible Institute. After a couple of cold, snowy winters in Alberta, she decided to finish her bachelor’s degree at Trinity College in Clearwater, FL, graduating in 1956. While working one summer at a children’s camp in Schenectady, New York, she met David Pelletier, whom she married in September of 1962. In 1969, she and David took their two small children to Williamsport, PA, where David served as the pastor of a small starter church. A few years later, the family moved to Jeffersonville, IN, while David earned his seminary degrees. After seminary, they moved first to New Jersey, and then, in 1986, to Hannibal, MO, where they spent the next 36 years. Throughout these many transitions, Jane’s determination to serve the Lord wherever she was never wavered. In the churches she attended, Jane taught Sunday School and played the piano, organ, and even the accordion for services. She often filled the role of church secretary, lending her meticulous editing skills to church publications. Jane’s weekday work opportunities always involved education. After graduating, she took a position at Columbia Bible College in Columbia, SC. While living in Jeffersonville, she taught kindergarten for a year. Later, she served as an administrative assistant in the offices of Northeastern Bible College in Essex Fells, NJ, and finally, at Hannibal-LaGrange University in Hannibal, MO. She was very proud to serve at these institutions alongside her husband David. Jane’s baking skills were unparalleled. She will be especially remembered for her biscuits, her flaky pie crust, and delightful birthday cakes, into which she hid coins to surprise her children. After retirement, Jane loved reading, rescuing cats, and feeding the birds and wild creatures that lived around her rural Missouri home. She would most want to be remembered as a lifelong student of the Bible and a faithful follower of the Lord, Jesus Christ. A memorial service will be held at Antioch Baptist Church in Hannibal, MO.
