Jerry Abernathy

Barrett Funeral Home of Cleveland announces the death of Mr. Jerry Wayne Abernathy, Sr., age 72, of Alto, formerly of Cleveland. Mr. Abernathy was born in White County on March 12, 1946 to Ethel Shelnut Abernathy and the late Sherman Abernathy.  He was preceded in death by father, and brothers, Tony Abernathy, Edward Abernathy, and David Abernathy.  Mr. Abernathy was a farmer and attended Zion Interdenominational Church. He is survived by his wife, Mae Abernathy of Alto; daughters, Hannah Abernathy, Demorest, Becky Abernathy, Demorest, and Elizabeth Williams, Cornelia; sons, Jerry Wayne Abernathy, Jr., Alto, David Abernathy (Brenda), Alto, and Dale Abernathy, Toccoa; mother, Ethel Shelnut Abernathy, Cleveland; grandchildren, Contessa Williams, Chantelle Williams, Tiffany and Bryan Skelton, Haven Minish, and Nathan and Damien Abernathy; great-grandchildren, Harper Crue and Maren Millwood, Ian Abernathy, Tobias Abernathy, and Hunter Abernathy; sister and brother-in law, Linda and Jackie Crane, Cleveland and Peggy and Don Hadaway, Clarkesville; brothers and sisters-in law, Cecil and Sue Abernathy, Murrayville and Mitchell and Rita Abernathy, Cleveland; and brother, Garry Abernathy, Cleveland. Funeral services are scheduled for 3 PM Tuesday, October 9, 2018 from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home.  The Rev. Gary Heffner, Rev. Robert Abernathy, and Rev. Clarence Reynolds will officiate.  Interment will follow in Zion Interdenominational Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Monday, October 8, 2018 at the funeral home.
