Mr. Jerry Prentice Monroe, Sr. age 70 of Cleveland, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2007 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following an extended illness.
Born in Forsyth County, Georgia on December 14, 1937, he was the son of the late Astor Prentice and Lillie Ruth Thomas Monroe. Mr. Monroe served in the U.S. Army, was retired from the printing industry, and was a member of the Covington Church of God. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gene Richard Monroe.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Carolyn Bishop Monroe, Cleveland; son, Jerry Monroe, Jr., Thomaston, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Debra Monroe, daughter, Judy Monroe, daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and James Nicholson, all of South Carolina; step-son, Michael Barbier, Cleveland; step-daughters and stepson-in-laws, Debbie and Ed Harrell, Florida; Barbara and Derik Stone, Chatsworth, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Roswell Story, Marietta; sister, Sara Sharp, Thomaston; 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 2 aunts, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2007 in the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Joe Hulsey and the Rev. Eugene Byrd will officiate. Burial will follow in Yonah View Memorial Gardens in Cleveland.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday.
