Mr. Jewel Glen Burgess, age 70 of Cleveland, passed away on Tuesday, April 08, 2008 at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Burgess was born in Dickson, Tennessee on October 14, 1937 to the late Dewey and Effie Tummins Burgess. Mr. Burgess was retired after 20 years with the U.S. Navy and also served his country proudly during Vietnam. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Young Burgess, brother, Dewey Burgess, sister-in-law, JoAnn Harkins, brother-in-laws, Jack Young, Richard Young, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Pauline and Joe Young.
Survivors include his son, Steven Burgess, Cleveland; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Andrew Chumney, Denver, CO; sister, Hazel Myatt, Jackson, TN; sisters and brother-in-laws, Christine and Henry Dunlap, Alama and Billy Hopper, Frances and Walter Wall, Wanda and Thomas Hayes, all of Dickson, TN; brothers and sister-in-laws, William and Carol Burgess, White House, TN; Donald and Connie Burgess, Nashville, TN; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Ed and Jennie Young, Dennis and Liz Young, Phil and Melanie Young, all of Cleveland; sister-in-law, Janice Young, Cleveland; several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, April 10, 2008 from the chapel of
Barrett Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Hood and the Rev. Dana Young officiating. Burial will follow at Tesnatee Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
