Joan Gertrude Freeman

April 20, 1936 – January 9, 2026

Joan Gertrude Freeman, 89, of Cleveland, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026. She was born April 20, 1936, in New York to Blanche and Norman Hillidge.

Joan is survived by her husband, Carlton Freeman; her children Montie Sue Spano, Roy Freeman, Kevin Peters, and Glenn Freeman; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both parents, her brother Norman Hillidge and her beloved sons, Eddie Freeman and Joe Freeman.

A devout Christian, Joan was a cherished friend, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She believed deeply in her faith, her friends, and her family.

Joan taught those around her the values of compassion, respect, understanding, patience, confidence, happiness, and love.

To her family she was a teacher, nurse, cook, maid, confidant, referee, counselor, juggler, comedian, guide, coach, and friend. All wrapped up in a package we called mom.

For those who knew her best, the world feels a little dimmer now, the colors less vibrant without her presence.

You did good, Mom.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 1243 Hulsey Rd, Cleveland, GA 30528, on Friday, January 16, at 3:00 PM.
