Joe Boyd "Pop Boyd" Thomas

Mr. Joe Boyd Thomas age 101 of Cleveland, passed away Monday, April 21, 2008 at his residence following an brief illness. Mr. Thomas was born in Towns County on July 02, 1906 to the late Zebede Augustus and Flossie Norton Thomas. He was a farmer and was a deacon at Chattahoochee Baptist Church. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Lavonia “Vonie” Garrett Thomas, son, O’Neal Thomas, granddaughter, Teresa Gail Thomas, great-great granddaughter, Breanna Hollis and 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law: Jimmie & Vernon McGee, Cleveland; Jackie & William Fain, Clarkesville & Pat and Richard Welborn, Cleveland; sons and daughters-in-law: Bonnell & Marie Thomas, Cleveland; Barney & Mary Thomas, Clermont; Jerry & Vivian Thomas, Cleveland; Herman & Billie Rae Thomas, Cleveland; Buddy & Carolyn Thomas, Norcross; Kenneth & Diane Thomas, Cleveland; Robin and Sherry Thomas, Cleveland and son: Sammy Thomas, Cleveland; brothers: Tommie Thomas, Cleveland and Floyd Thomas, Dawsonville; 26 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, as well as a number of step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Allison, Rev. Jamie Smith and the Rev. Dave Fortner officiating. Interment will follow in Gateway Memory Park. The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm on Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
