John G. Cisson

Mr. John Gillis Cisson, 79, of Homer, Georgia passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Gateway Health and Rehab in Cleveland, Georgia. He was born in the Red Hill Community of Franklin County, Georgia to Albert L. and Zettie Williams Cisson. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of over 52 years, Euella Mazelle Bruce Sosebee Cisson, originally from Toccoa; siblings, Lucy Bell Watkins, Leroy Cisson, L. D. (Deiter) Cisson, Eugene Cisson, and Hazel Thompson Macomson. Mr. Cisson was a graduate of Franklin County High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean Conflict. After his military enlistment, he attended and graduated from Piedmont College where he studied research chemistry. He began his career as a chemist with the Center of Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia. While there, he was instrumental in devising a semi-automated procedure for the determination of serum cholesterol using the Abell-Kendall Method, and thus received a Certificate of Achievement from the Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare. Mr. Cisson is survived by his sister Sarah C. Loudermilk, Sautee (since deceased); step-children, John S. Sosebee, Maysville and Cynthia Ann Hardin, Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Andrea Darlene Merritt and husband, Steve, Simpsonville, South Carolina and William (Billy) Aubrey Sosebee and wife, Sandra, Anderson, South Carolina, Jose J. Paz and wife, Alexandria; great-grandchildren, Caroline Merritt, Benjamin Merritt, Samantha Sosebee, Tonya Macias, and Athena Paz; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. A memorial service is planned for December 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Allens United Methodist Church, 15577 Hwy 106, Carnesville, Georgia. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Allens United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
