Johnny Hoyt Merck

Johnny Hoyt Merck, age 82, of Cleveland, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Mr. Merck was born on February 23, 1942, in Gainesville, Georgia, to the late Joseph Hoyt Merck and Bertha Bell Merck. Johnny graduated from East Hall High School and North Georgia Technical College in Clarkesville, GA. He was of the Baptist faith and was also a Gideon in the White County Camp. Johnny worked for Georgia Power. He also was a real estate broker and owned Merck Realty along with his wife, Janie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 6 siblings; and brother-in-law, Dan Sanders. Survivors include his wife, Janie Merck; brothers and sisters-in-law, Doug and Maudeen Merck and Richard and Beverly Merck; special niece, Christie Crump; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carolyn Sanders, Joe and Theresa Sellers, and Jim and Cinda Sellers; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family also survive. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Hazel Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Doug Merck and the Rev. Richard Merck will officiate. Interment will follow in Hazel Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Merck will lie in state from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. at the church on Saturday, prior to the funeral service.
