Joseph Eugene (Gene) Glaze

Joseph Eugene (Gene) Glaze, age 91 of Cleveland, died July 14, 2012, at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Glaze was born in White County on December 1, 1920. He was the son of the late Joseph Eldridge Glaze and Sara Lou Wilda Winkler Glaze. He was a Purple Heart World War II Army Veteran, a member of New Bridge Baptist Church of White County since 1951, a Deacon there since September 23, 1962 and served as Sunday School Superintendent for more than 40 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Mae Tomlin Glaze, son in law, William Cathey, siblings, Elbert Glaze, Ada Woods, Lester Glaze, Lonnie Glaze, Lillie Glaze, Willie Glaze, Gladys Aaron, Lillie House, Benjamin Hershel Satterfield, Viola S. White and Eunice Mae Glaze (who was only 1 year old). He is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Jean Cathey, Cleveland; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas Jefferson and Charlie Mae Glaze, Cleveland; sister, Ethelene Bunch Herrington, Griffin; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He only had one child, but was loved by more children than any grandparent could be, as well as the entire community, church family and caregivers. He was a carpenter by trade; however, he enjoyed gardening, fishing and playing the guitar. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, July 16, 2012 from New Bridge Baptist Church of White County, with the Rev. Darin Cain, the Rev. Verner London and the Rev. Phillip Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-9 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
