Joseph Leon Hubbard
10.10.1948 – 1.23.2026
Joseph L. Hubbard, 77 years old, passed away on Friday, at his home in Hiawassee dying peacefully, in the arms of his sister, after an extended illness.
Mr. Hubbard was born on October 10¸1948, at Emory Hospital to Sara Taylor and Bernard Leon (Sam) Hubbard. He grew up in Decatur and Hickory Flat. He graduated from Cherokee High School and attended LaGrange College. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Joe was a creative spirit and spent most of his life working and crafting with wood: building homes and businesses, cabinets and custom furniture, and finally beautifully created memory boxes which he shared with loved ones. He spent most of his adult life in these Northeast Georgia mountains, Cherokee County, and retired to Hiawassee. He enjoyed a gift of music, shared with family and friends, to touch others who want and need their shared gifts.
He is survived by his sister, the Reverend Dr. Gayle Hubbard Arnold, of Cleveland, and his older brother, James E. Hubbard (Peggy), two nephews James E. Hubbard, Jr. (Woodstock), Jason T. Hubbard (Holly) and Great Nephew Seth James Hubbard (Waleska).
Joe will be remembered and celebrated in a graveside service at Mossy Creek United Methodist cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with Gayle, and her late husband, Rev. Rick Arnold.
