Lillie Mae Loggins

June 15, 1934 — October 1, 2012

Barrett Funeral Home of Cleveland announces the death of Mrs. Lillie 'Mae' Petitt Loggins, age 78, of Cleveland. Mrs. Loggins passed away Monday, October 1, 2012, at her home following a period of declining health. Mrs. Loggins was born on June 15, 1934, on Pink Mountain in the Blue Creek area of White County to the late James Harbert Petitt and Lou Cinda Thomas Petitt. She was a selfless woman, dedicated to those she loved. She spent a great portion of her life as a private caretaker of the elderly after single-handedly raising her own family without the help of anyone following the death of her husband. Despite life's adversities, she had a zest for life, loving humorous storytelling, traveling across the country, recounting the family histories of the area, tending to her pets, and gardening in her own simple flower garden. She is preceded in death by her granddaughter Brandy Michele Holden; sister Henrietta Petitt; brothers Francis Eli Petitt, Robert Gordon Petitt, and James Dewey Petitt; husband, Van Lee Loggins I; and grandparents Benjamin Franklin Petitt and Mary Jane Bolick Petitt and James William Thomas and Della Caroline Ledford Thomas. She is survived by sons Gabriel Lee Loggins of Flowery Branch and Hank Carroll Loggins of Dahlonega; daughter and son-in-law Evelyn Dianne and James William Holden of Cornelia; daughter Shirley Ruth Loggins of Smyrna; son and daughter-in-law Wayne Norton and Mary Louise Loggins; brothers and sisters-in-law John and Edith Petitt of Cornelia, Lum and Betty Petitt; sister Rose Gooch of Cleveland; sisters and brothers-in-law Mary Lou and Tom Skelton of Cleveland, Pauline and Bernie Blakney of Cleveland; grandsons Van Lee Loggins II, Kevin Loggins and Shamus Chapman; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones. Graveside services are scheduled for 3:00 PM Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Yonah Memorial Gardens, Demorest, GA. The Rev. James Holdan will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Online condolences can be made to the family at barrettfh.com Barrett Funeral Home, Cleveland, GA.
