L.J. Holman

Mr. L.J. Holman, age 75 of Cleveland passed away on Monday morning, December 31, 2007 at his residence following an extended illness. Born in White County, Georgia on January 04, 1932, he was the son of the late Comer and Estelle Cagle Holman. Mr. Holman moved to Gainesville from Cleveland in 1950, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1954-1955, worked for Holman Service Co. for many years, and finally retired as a Salesman from J.C. Penny Co. after many years of dedicated service. After retirement and many years in the Gainesville area, Mr. Holman moved back to White County where he has lived since 1997. He was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church in Cleveland, a 50 year member of the American Legion Gainesville Post # 7, and a 50 year member of the Murrayville Masonic Lodge # 30. Mr. Holman was preceded in death by his brother, Clyde Holman and a sister, Thelma Holman Simmons. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Margaret “Peggy” Stevens Holman, Cleveland; daughter and son-in-law, Susan Holman Winkler and Larry Winkler, Cleveland; grandson, Ryan Latty, granddaughter, Ansley Winkler, both of Cleveland; sister-in-law, Irene Winkler, Gainesville; brother-in-law, Hoyt Simmons, Cleveland; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 02, 2008 from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Dean Bryant and the Rev. Chris Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. View Baptist Church Cemetery in Cleveland. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers the family requests that all donations be made to the Mt. View Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 2615 Cleveland, Georgia 30528 or to the American Diabetes Association, Atlanta/North Georgia Office, Three Corporate Square, Suite 120, Atlanta, Georgia 30329.
