Margie Delores Allen Bynum

Margie Delores Allen Bynum, age 87 of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017.   Margie was born February 2, 1930 near Hoffman, MN, the second oldest of five children of William E. and Bernice Allen. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and her husband of 56 years, Vernon C. Bynum.   Margie married her husband in Alaska on March 15, 1951. She enjoyed a full and happy life there; together they built a home and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing an exploring. They raised sled dogs and had a dog team and as well as horses. They homesteaded in Alaska before it became a state and were instrumental in getting Statehood for Alaska in 1959. In 1960 they returned to the States where their daughter Carol was born May 1, 1960. After that followed many years of farming and heavy construction. In addition to raising her daughter Margie often worked as a bookkeeper. Margie and Vernon moved to Cleveland, GA in 1988 to manage Brookside Campground where they stayed and bought their home. Margie loved poetry and could recite many poems she learned from her mother. Margie and her husband were saved and baptized at Rosewood Baptist Church in Columbia, SC in 1952. They later joined Emmanuel Baptist Church in Billings, MT in 1979. Margie also belonged to the Blue Ridge Goodwill Circle.   Margie was a loving wife and mother, she will be sadly missed by her family.   Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Carol Elizabeth and Patrick Powell, Cleveland; sister, and brother-in-law, Kent and Dorothy Fillingham, De Leon, TX; brothers and sisters-in-law, Luvern and Mirriam Allen, Ryderwood, WA; Bob and Rae Allen, Hinckley, UT; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Drew and Mattie Lou Bynum; Lex and Willie Dell Bynum; Donald and Arlene Bynum; sisters-in-law; Margit Bynum and Jean Bynum; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.   Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Gateway Memory Park.   The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.   Online condolences can be made to the family at barrettfh.com.   Barrett Funeral Home, Cleveland.
