Mary Louise Black

October 14, 1924 — February 12, 2011

Mrs. Mary Louise Black age 86 of Cleveland passed away Saturday at Gateway Health Care Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Black was born and raised in Cleveland the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Mary Cannon Underwood. She married Richard Black in 1944 and lived in the Atlanta area until 1980 then returned to Cleveland. She was a dedicated homemaker and mother. Mrs. Black was preceded in death by a son, Richard E. (Rick) Black Jr. and brothers, Abner Underwood and Bill Underwood. Mrs. Black worked in her early years supporting her family and sending her husband to Georgia Tech to get a civil engineering degree. Tech awarded her a degree in PHT (Putting Husband Through). Mrs. Black was a member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland. Survivors include her husband, Richard E. Black Sr., Cleveland; son and daughter in law, Robert Lance and Connie Black, Seattle, WA.; grandchildren, Tracy and Dave Pierson, Leavenworth, KS., Lauren Black, Atlanta; great grandchildren, Chris Pierson, Dillion Pierson; sisters in law, Shirley McDonald, Dorothy Black, both of Cleveland; brothers in law and sisters in law, Lamar (Pinkey) and Betty Black, Bill and Conchita Black, all of Cleveland; caretaker, Karen Alexander, special friend, Frieda Julian and several nieces, nephews and other close friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. Mrs. Barbara Head and the Rev. Dennis Turner will officiate. Burial will follow in Gateway Memory Park.
