Maxine Perkins Childress, age 77 of Cleveland, formerly of Florida, passed away on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born in Shelby County, Tennessee on April 12, 1930, she was the daughter of late Herbert Poutan Perkins and Virgie Brown Perkins. Mrs. Childress was a homemaker and had lived in White County for the past 10 years. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Horace Perkins, Morris Perkins, Eldon Perkins, and sisters, Helen Richardson, and Cynthia Lawson.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Aubrey M. Childress, Cleveland; son, Kevin Childress, New York City, NY; daughter, Renee Childress Groover, Clay Hill, FL; grandchildren, Tony Groover, Lisa Maxine Groover, Barbara Ann Groover, Cory Matthew Groover, great-grandchildren, Teddy Hale, Tyler Groover, brothers, Norris Perkins, MS; Jimmy Perkins, TN; Michael Perkins, PA; sisters, Gloria Tanner, Illinois; and Diane Ewing, TN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2007 in the Chapel of Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch, Mississippi with the Rev. Paul Wheelus officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Independence, Mississippi.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service.
