Merlyn Hughes

Merlyn Hughes, age 87, of Suches, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024. Mr. Hughes was born on April 19, 1937, in Adairsville, Georgia, to the late Luther and Flossie Griffin Hughes. He was self-employed in the construction industry and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Merlyn enjoyed gardening in his spare time. In addition to his parents, Merlyn was preceded in death by his son, Mark Hughes; brothers, David Hughes, Daniel Hughes, Alvin Lunsford, Lavoid Hughes, and Diane Graves. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Helen Hughes; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Beverly Hughes; grandchildren, Brittany and Michael Greenway, Cameron Hughes, and Miranda Eubanks; great-granddaughter, Harper Greenway; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin and Jan Hughes, and Jackie and Lily Hughes; daughter-in-law, Leslie Hughes; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ann Hughes, Katie Lunsford, Barbara and Danny McDaniel, Audrey and Jess Stout, David Freeman; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 5, 2024, at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Derrick Pruitt will officiate. Interment will follow in Yonah View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home, prior to the funeral service.
