Mrs. Jewell Mallory Rayburn, affectionately known as “Mama Jewell” age 99 of Cleveland passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2008 at her residence.
Born in Americus, Georgia on June 15, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Jessie B. and Annie M. Mallory. She attended Columbus Schools and graduated from Columbus Industrial High School. Mrs. Rayburn was employed by Britton and Dobbs Cypress Chapel, Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, and retired from the Pastoral Institute at the Bradley Center. Mrs. Rayburn had been living in Cleveland since 1999, was a member of the Mt. Yonah Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband, George Robert Rayburn; son-in-law, Rev. Jerry McGhee; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Rayburn; two sisters, and two brothers.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice McGhee, Cleveland; sons, John Mallory Rayburn, Valley, AL; Robert “Bob” George Rayburn, Columbus, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel Paul and Cynthia Rayburn, Ellerslie, GA; sister, Theda Flanagan; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at the Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, Georgia. The Rev. Doug Merck will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the McMullen Funeral Home in Columbus, Georgia from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
