Myrtleen Rogers Ravan

September 29, 1924 — July 8, 2016

Myrtleen Rogers Ravan, age 91, of Lula, passed away July 8, 2016, after a long and brave fight with dementia. Born September 29, 1924, she lived and worked in the Belton Bridge area for 91 years. A mother and homemaker, she was also a very hard toiling farmer. She worked side by side with her husband for 70 years in the poultry house and the vegetable garden that she tended daily working tirelessly to help provide for her family. She was a strong woman with an even stronger work ethic. She also had a love for fun either with a funny story and most of all her love of country music. She would watch RFD every Saturday night during the music hours and might still jump up and dance anytime the mood struck her. She had a strong spirit and had the habit of telling you just like it was. We all have our name for her, Momma, Big Momma, Nanny and Granny, even Big Red to some, but most called her Myrtle and she will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.L. Ravan, father and mother, Brady and Effie Rogers, brothers, N.L., Delmar, Rex, and sister Louteen. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Marvin Wiley; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Diane Ravan; son, Roger Ravan; daughter, Jan Ravan; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law: Kim and Terry Hollingsworth, and Andrea and Shannon Gilbert; granddaughter, Brandie Ravan; great-grandchildren: Chelsea, Jade, and Triston Hollingsworth, and Loden Ravan; and great-great-grandson on the way, Walker Hollingsworth; all of Lula; along with many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 pm Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. W.A. Jenkins will officiate. Interment will be in Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 Monday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made to the family at barrettfh.com.
