Rev. James Travis "J.T." Tyson

January 14, 1920 — April 18, 2008

Rev. James Travis (J.T.) Tyson age 88 of Mt. Airy passed away Friday April 18, 2008 at Habersham County Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Rev. Tyson was born in Turner County, Georgia the son of the late Wiley M. and Leila Ann Giles Tyson. He started as a farmer in Tifton Georgia and became a Baptist Minister at the age of 35. He graduated the University of Georgia at the age of 41 and pastored for 50 years at various Churches. Rev. Tyson was a member of Hill’s Crossing Baptist Church in Clarkesville and was a graduate and former trustee of Truett McConnell College. Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Tyson, Mt. Airy; son and daughter in law, Travis and Clydine Tyson, Dalton; daughters and sons in law, Myra and Tom Mitchell, Dalton, Nell Doris and Dr. Charles Harris, Lynne and Ken Hise, all of Mt. Airy; sister in law, Grace McKinney, Macon; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday April 20, 2008 at Hills Crossing Baptist Church. The Rev. Walter Singletary, and Dr. Joe Vernon will officiate. Interment will be in Yonah View Memorial Gardens in Cleveland with the Rev. Donald Holbrook and the Rev. Dennis Turner officiating. The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Flowers are appreciated or contributions may be made to Hills Crossing Baptist Church, Jim Mercer Playground Fund, P.O.
