Richard Myers

May 25, 1932 — October 10, 2014

Richard Myers, age 82 of Cleveland, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends holding his daughter’s hand on October 10, 2014 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Myers was born May 25, 1932 in Clermont to the late Jesse James Myers and Maude Loggins Myers. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Ann Myers and several brothers and sisters. He was dedicated to his family, church and country. He was a loving family man to his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was retired from the United States Army after 27 years of service. Mr. Myers received numerous awards and accommodations for his service. After his years with the Army he went on to work for the Atlanta Journal Constitution as a paper carrier and retired after 21 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. Richard was saved at the young age of 79 and remained dedicated to his faith. Survivors include his wife, Dovie Myers, Cleveland; children and spouses, Rick and Donna Myers, Braselton; Jessie RHDonna Myers Shubert and Benny Shubert, Cumming; Cathy and Ricky Phillips, Cleveland; Phyllis and Earl Fain, Cleveland; Ricky and Judy Walden, Dahlonega; Stevie and Pat Walden, Dahlonega; Christine and Ed Reed, Cleveland; Penny and Reggie Couch, Cleveland; brothers, Ralph Myers, Eugene Myers, James Myers; sisters, Lois Chambers, Stella Smith, Marie Gailey, Jessie Mae Delong, Cathy Seymore; grandchildren, Stevie Ballard, Iasha Myers, David Myers, Parker Shubert; 2 great grandchildren, 11 step grandchildren and 18 step great grandchildren. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Sunday, October 12, 2014 from the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Les Fuller, the Rev. Chris Anderson and the Rev. Tim Hicks will officiate. Interment will follow at Moss Cemetery in Dawsonville. The family will receive friends from 2-8 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
