Richard Russell Smith, Sr.

Richard Russell Smith, Sr., age 84, of Cleveland, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021. Mr. Smith was born on January 8, 1937, in Hogansville, Georgia, to the late Robert Russell and Sallie Kate Jackson Smith. He was retired from the banking business and was a member of Cleveland First Baptist Church. Richard was also a member of Yonah Lodge 382 F&AM for 54 years and a member of Yaarab Shrine. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jesse and Lila Childers. Survivors include his wife, Janice Childers Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Russ and Tracy Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Johnny Saxon; daughter, Kathy Smith; grandchildren, Emma and Matt Cowart, and Carly and Josh Adam. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Thursday, October 14, 2021, at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis Turner will officiate. Interment will follow at Yonah View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home and from 2:00 – 3:00 P.M.
