Robert “Bob” Oliver, age 83 of Cleveland, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, May 22, 2026.

Bob was born on November 2, 1942, in Closter, NJ to the late John David Oliver Sr. and Lillian Christensen Oliver. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law John David Oliver Jr. and Connie Oliver; sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Don Pittenger.

In 1955 Bob and his family moved from Closter, NJ to Ft. Pierce, FL where he graduated from Dan McCarty High School. He would then pursue his Medical Technology degree in Miami, FL. It is there that he met Elizabeth Kellogg and they married in 1962. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters. Bob would eventually become the Medical Director of the Laboratory at Raulerson Hospital in Okeechobee, FL and would serve in that position for over 30 years. He held many leadership roles at the hospital during his time there. Bob also served the Okeechobee community in various roles including City Council.

In 2004 Bob retired and relocated to Cleveland, GA where he would soon meet Gail Gilreath Barron, they would marry on March 26, 2007, and spend 19 wonderful years together. During his time in Cleveland, Bob served several terms on the White County Planning Commission and was very active in the White County Chamber of Commerce. For several years they volunteered and delivered Meals on Wheels weekly. Bob and Gail attended Shoal Creek Baptist Church, where they were a part of the New Vision Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Oliver; daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly (Jimmy) Ard; Kelly (Craig)Thornley; grandchildren, Jamie (Jill) Ard, Jennifer (Ralph) Ard, Morgan Thornley; great grandchildren, Emma Mitchell, Hannah Blanche, Olivia Mitchell, Kaley Blanche, Owen Ard, Riley Blanche, Sophia Blanche; sister-in-law, Ginger Oliver; niece, Holly Walker; nephews, Rick Pittenger, Chris Oliver and Tom Oliver.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 PM Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 PM Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Josh Chatham will officiate. Interment will follow at Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
