Roy Verlen Helton

Mr. Roy Verlen Helton age 79, of Dahlonega passed away Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Chestatee Regional Hospital. Mr. Helton was born in Dahlonega the son of the late William Oscar and Lillie Mae Sutton Helton. Verlen was of the Baptist faith, and he worked many years cutting timber for a living. He also enjoyed activities like hunting and fishing, as he was very passionate for the outdoors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Helton and sister, Ruth Parks. Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Helton, Dahlonega; daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Joel Turner, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Tyler and Kayla Turner, Cleveland, Lauren Turner, Dahlonega; sisters, Lois Cantrell, Dahlonega, sister and brother-in-law, Reba and Bert Thomas, Cleveland; sister-in-law, Margie Helton, Dahlonega; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Louise and Bill Etris, Dahlonega; sister-in-law, Avery Davidson, Dahlonega; brother-in-law, Leroy Parks, Dahlonega; several nieces and nephews, and little canine companion, Sadie. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday July 26, 2015 at the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Lyman Caldwell, the Rev. Brandon Hester and the Rev. Phillip Robinson will officiate. Interment will follow at Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery The family will receive friends 11 am- 9 PM Saturday and again on Sunday from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
