Mr. Sam D. Alford, Jr., age 71, of Dahlonega, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Alford was born in Louisiana on November 24, 1936 to the late Sam Sr. and Mildred Inez Fails Alford. He was a 1955 graduate of Biloux High School, served in the Marines Reserve and the U.S. Navy for 11 ½ years. He retired from Dobbins Air Force Base as a civil employee. Mr. Alford was an avid hunter, fisherman and gold miner. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland where he served as a deacon. Mr. Alford was also preceded in death by a son, Gary Dillard and sister, Vera Sturges.
Survivors include: his wife Shirley Barber Alford, Dahlonega; sons: Roy M. Alford, Newnan; Robert L. Alford, Stockbridge; Tim W. Alford, Dallas; Daniel Dillard, Florence, AL.; brother, Robert B. Alford, Cleveland, TN; sisters: Sandra Hopkins and Marilyn Alford, both of Biloux, MS; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2008 from First Baptist Church of Cleveland. Dr. Robert Massey and the Rev. Dennis Turner will officiate. Interment will be in Yonah View Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
