The holy hills of Heaven called Sharon Elizabeth Champion Groemminger home, on April 28, 2022. She was at her home in Cleveland, Georgia, with her family by her side. She was 72. She was born on January 19, 1950 in Albany Georgia to the late Alice and Frank Champion. She was a 1968 graduate of Albany High School. A devoted Marine corps wife, she was a committed and supportive partner of her husbands military career. Throughout those 24 years she lovingly raised their two daughters, often single-handedly through countless months apart during war, deployments, and overseas assignments. She worked as an operator for Southern Bell, then later as a receptionist for the Detreville House at the Beaufort Marine Corps Air Station. Sharon had an overwhelmingly loving Christian heart, and reached out to help those in need. She was an incredibly talented artist, and brought beauty to every space and to those around her. She had an endless love and wonder of nature and animals. Her favorite pastimes were creating art of all kinds to share with friends and family, and sitting in her garden, “basking in God’s glory”, as she would say. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband MGySgt Edward Groemminger, and her sister Gloria (Dale) Baxter. She is survived by her daughters Dr. Virginia (Angelina) Groemminger and their four children, and Melissa (Michael) Somampong, her sister Deniece (Dale) McBride, as well as her four canine companions. In honor of her wishes, she was cremated and no service was held.
