Mrs. Thelma Palmer Allen age 90 of Cleveland passed away Saturday November 1, 2008 at the Oak Heritage Health Care following an extended illness.
Mrs. Allen was born in White County the daughter of the late William A. and Mattie Jenkins Palmer. She was a graduate of Cleveland High School where she played basketball and continued her education at North Georgia Tech where she met Tom Allen and married him at age 22. Mrs. Allen retired from Talon and was a seamstress. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Riley Allen and nine brothers and sisters. Mrs. Allen was a member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland.
Survivors include daughter and son in law, Sandra and James Elder, Cumming; daughter, Annette Brown, Cleveland; daughters and sons in law, Judy and Edgar Smith, Cathy and Leon Thomason, Miriam and Donnie Hammond, Jennifer and Wayne Vandiver, all of Cleveland; son and daughter in law, Michael and Reverta Allen, Cleveland; sons, Tony Allen, Lula, Warren Allen, Joe Allen, both of Cleveland; son and daughter in law, Rev. Teddy and Cindy Allen, Cleveland; 30 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren; her beloved pet, Toby; special friends, Billy Helton, Edwin Cathey and Peg Garey, all of Cleveland.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday November 4, 2008 at the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis Turner and the Rev. Michael Wilkes will officiate. Interment will be in Cleveland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends all day Monday at the funeral home.
