Mr. Thomas Haskel Chambers, 81 of Cleveland, passed away July 2, 2007 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born on September 01, 1925 in Habersham County, Georgia, he was the son of the late John Thomas & Nora McIntyre Chambers. Mr. Chambers was a veteran of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers serving in World War II from 1943-1946 in Italy, Germany and North Africa and retired as a supervisor from Westinghouse Airbreak Company in Toccoa. He served on the Board of Directors of Habersham Electric Membership Corp, and on the Board of Directors of Oglethorpe Power. He was also a self-employed plumber and of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Chambers was preceded in death by his sisters, Carolyn Jones Crane and Neller Holcomb.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Tommy Chambers, Cleveland; sons and daughter-in-laws: Dennis & Nikki Chambers, Gainesville; Michael and Elizabeth Chambers, Marietta; brother and sister-in-law, Orem and Jessie Lou Chambers, Cleveland; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Allen Wilson, Bellmont, NC; sisters, Blanche Carperter, North Augusta, SC; Marie Dillard, Villa Rica, GA; Ruth Fortenberry, Mary Willow Hood, both of Demorest; grandchildren, Seth & Sara Chambers, Marietta; Kyle Chambers & Natalie Chambers Millican, Gainesville & numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 6, 2007 at the Barrett Chapel with the Rev. Verner London officiating. Burial will follow in Harvest Christian Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
